Sidebrow Off-Site at AWP Denver

Tarpaulin Sky, FactSimile, & Sidebrow Books invite you to kick off AWP 2010 with their joint off-site event on Wednesday, April 7, from 5:30-7:30 at Translations Gallery in Denver.

Sandy Florian will be reading from On Wonderland & Waste on behalf of Sidebrow Books, and Roxanne Carter, Jennifer Denrow, and Danielle Vogel will be performing a collaborative reading based on their contributions to Sidebrow’s Ghost Project.

Traci O Connor, Kim Gek Lin Short, and Joanna Ruocco will be reading on behalf of Tarpaulin Sky, and Travis Macdonald will be reading on behalf of FactSimile.

Sandy Florian is the author Telescope (Action Books), 32 Pedals & 47 Stops (Tarpaulin Sky Press), The Tree of No (Action Books), On Wonderland & Waste (Sidebrow Books), and Prelude to Air From Water (Elixir Press). She has been awarded residencies at Caldera Arts, Stonehouse, and the Vermont Studio Center and literary prizes from Elixir Press, New Voices, and Brown University. She currently lives in San Francisco where she’s an affiliate artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts.

Roxanne Carter is never ready for what comes next. She lives in Denver where she is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Denver. Her writings have been included in Caketrain, La Petite Zine, Finery, and The New River. She can be found prancing around at

Jennifer Denrow lives in Denver, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. at Denver University.

danielle vogel is interested in writing that is concerned with trauma and anamnesis. Her writing envelops what it means to inhabit a body and a space that is damaged, where and how memory is stored and recovered within this body, and how to translate this into language. She dreams of writing a woman dislocating herself into place through narrative. danielle is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Denver, the author of lit (dancing girl press 2008), and her writing will be featured adjoined to the paintings of JL Schnabel during the summer of 2010 in a show titled Planchette.

Kim Gek Lin Short is the author of The Bugging Watch & Other Exhibits (Tarpaulin Sky Press, 2010) and China Cowboy (forthcoming from Tarpaulin Sky Press, 2011), as well as two chapbooks, The Residents (dancing girl press) and Run (Rope-a-Dope). She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and daughter.

Joanna Ruocco is the author of The Mothering Coven (Ellipsis Press, 2009). She co-edits Birkensnake, a fiction journal. She currently resides in Denver, Colorado.

In addition to Recipes for Endangered Species, Traci O Connor has published fiction, non-fiction, and poetry in journals such as Barrow Street, Fourteen Hills, Gargoyle, Margie, Mid-American Review, LIT, and DIAGRAM. She holds an M.F.A. and a PhD from the University of Utah. A writer and assistant professor at Guilford College, she lives with her family in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Travis Macdonald lives and writes in Santa Fe, N.M., where he works in advertising. His work has appeared in Bombay Gin, Cricket Online Review, E-Ratio, Jacket, Hot Whiskey, Otoliths, Wheelhouse and elsewhere.
