Wilkinson, Svalina, Becker, & Leslie

Sidebrow, Letter Machine Editions, & Octopus Books invite you to an evening of poetry, with readings by Joshua Marie Wilkinson, Matthias Svalina, Claire Becker, & Juliana Leslie.

The reading will take place at Little Bird Coffeehouse in the Tenderloin, and represents the San Francisco stop of Joshua’s ongoing U.S. Selenography book tour.

Born and raised in Seattle, Joshua Marie Wilkinson is the author of five books of poetry, most recently Selenography. He has also edited two anthologies for University of Iowa Press, including Poets on Teaching, due out fall 2010. A tour documentary about the band Califone, entitled Made a Machine by Describing the Landscape, is also forthcoming. He teaches at Loyola University Chicago, and divides his time between Chicago and Athens, GA.

Mathias Svalina was born in Chicago, where his parents were both chemists. He is the author of five chapbooks as well as five collaboratively written chapbooks. His work has been published widely in journals such as American Letters & Commentary, The Boston Review, Diagram, jubilat, and Typo. He has won fellowships and awards from The Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, The Iowa Review and New Michigan Press among other places. With Zachary Schomburg, he co-edits Octopus Magazine and Octopus Books. He currently teaches writing and literature in Denver, Colorado. Destruction Myth is his first book.

Claire Becker lives in Oakland and teaches in the high school mainstream program at the California School for the Blind. She co-edits the email/web journal RealPoetik with Lily Brown. Her e-chap Get You is available through Duration Press, and her first book, Where We Think It Should Go, is forthcoming from Octopus Books.

Juliana Leslie is a graduate student at UC Santa Cruz.  She is the author of two chapbooks, Pie in the Sky and That Obscure Coincidence of Feeling, and the full-length collection More Radiant Signal, due out very soon from Letter Machine Editions.
